Rhythm of the heart: How HK Fashion Fest united culture, talent, design creativity

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region once again affirmed its standing as Asia’s unrivalled fashion capital, as the third edition of the Hong Kong Fashion Fest concluded its two-week run in spectacular style on Sept 14, building on the resounding success of its previous two installments.

Presented by the HKSAR government and spearheaded and sponsored by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency of the Culture, Sports, and Tourism Bureau, the celebration drew the fashion world’s gaze to Hong Kong and ended on a triumphant note.

Bringing together over 300 local and international design entities, the fashion extravaganza presented eight flagship programs in collaboration with six industry organizations. The events took place across various cultural landmarks and stylish design spaces, showcasing the city’s exceptional appeal.

This edition also served as a powerful springboard for emerging talent, propelling the creativity and aesthetics of designers onto the global stage while reaffirming the HKSAR’s role as a meeting point for commerce, culture, and craft.

Spanning these flagship offerings were the opening program VIRTUOSE: The Artistry of Couture 2026, the citywide fashion pop-up Wear’s HK, the international fashion showcase and trade platform CENTRESTAGE, the cross-cultural menswear exhibition Future Threads: Menswear’s New Waves Between Italy and China’s HKSAR, the sustainable fashion conference Fashion Summit (Hong Kong) 2026, the industry networking evening Hong Kong Fashion Fest Gala 2026, the fashion dialogue and talent showcase Fashion Asia Hong Kong 2026, and the denim culture celebration, the fifth Hong Kong Denim Festival.

Speaking at the launch ceremony in July, Rosanna Law Shuk-pui, secretary for Culture, Sports, and Tourism of HKSAR government, traced the event’s origins back to Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu’s 2023 Policy Address, which set out the vision of making the city Asia’s fashion design hub.

“It was under this vision that we launched the inaugural Hong Kong Fashion Fest in 2024, and, in just two years, the event has steadily grown into a major annual fashion occasion for the city,” she said.

Law said that the theme, “Rhythm of the Heart”, is one that’s “full of meaning”. “Hong Kong is the heart of Asia’s fashion industry, a place where creativity and innovation converge and where momentum never ceases.”

“Designers and industry practitioners pour their craftsmanship and boundless dedication into every piece, and the works on display offer a glimpse of the heart, soul, and talent invested in each creation,” Law said. “We hope to build not merely a fashion showcase, but a stage that embraces the multifaceted development of the fashion industry and resonates with the world.”

VIRTUOSE: The Artistry of Couture 2026, presented by the Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association, was staged at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, featuring four exceptional designers — Guillermo Decimo from Spain, Phan Huy from Vietnam, Tigerstrolling Artisanal, and Vivian Luk from Hong Kong. The venue was transformed into a stage with the runway framed by four majestic arches, each a living testament to a distinct architectural heritage.

“VIRTUOSE is far more than just a fashion show,” HKFDA Chairman Kevin Yeung said. “It’s a grand celebration of exceptional artistry, bold creativity, and master craftsmanship that brings together diverse cultures and unique perspectives.”

“This is not fashion to chase, but to appreciate — a celebration of the human hands behind the creation, where couture’s true power lies in the artistry of its application, making it more modern, approachable, and profoundly meaningful,” Bonita Cheung, conceptual & project director of VIRTUOSE 2026, said.

A striking example of cross-cultural exchange came in the form of “Future Threads: Menswear’s New Waves Between Italy and China’s HKSAR” — a cross-border fashion exchange project organized by the Hong Kong Design Centre in partnership with Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana.

Curated by Sara Sozzani Maino, International New Talent and Brands Ambassador of CNMI, the exhibition explored the theme “INFLECTION”, examining the evolution and reinvention of contemporary menswear. The showcase reinterpreted classic tailoring, innovative uses of materials, and conventional ideas of gender and menswear, bringing together experimental approaches, craftsmanship, and considerations of sustainability.

If the summit set the agenda, the gala delivered the glamour. The “Hong Kong Fashion Fest Gala 2026”, organized by the Hong Kong Fashion Council, was held under the theme “Rhythm of the Heart” — echoing that of the third edition of the Hong Kong Fashion Fest. The gala brought together fashion, art, and culture in a cross-disciplinary celebration. Sunny Tan, Legislative Council Member (Textiles and Garment) and HKFC Chairman, extended his gratitude to the participating organizers and industry partners, saying: “The third Hong Kong Fashion Fest reflects the collective commitment of the HKSAR government and the industry to advancing Hong Kong’s fashion development.”

One of the key highlights of the gala was “Martlet” — a specially presented three-act ballet performance by Hong Kong Ballet in bespoke costumes designed by internationally acclaimed Hong Kong designer Robert Wun. Taking an innovative and bold approach to ballet, the production reinterpreted the art form by seamlessly blending classical and contemporary dance.
