Harry Shum Jr. has addressed whether he would reprise his roles in Glee and Crazy Rich Asians. The actor remains interested in returning to both franchises, although neither has confirmed his involvement. He also discussed his connection to the projects as he continues his run on Dancing With the Stars.
In a post-show interview with Entertainment Weekly, Shum Jr. shared his enthusiasm for revisiting the two stories. He said, “You know what? I love those two franchises.” The actor also explained why he would like to revisit Crazy Rich Asians, particularly after its ending left room for Charlie Wu and Astrid Leong’s story to continue.
Shum Jr. explained, “Obviously, the last of Crazy Rich Asians ended on the characters that Gemma [Chan] and I play, so I would love to try and find a way to make it work.”
He also expressed interest in returning to Glee, where he portrayed Mike Chang. The actor said, “Same thing with Glee… I’m currently really, really busy now, but I would love to keep continuing because I love those franchises.”
Harry Shum Jr. teases Glee references on Dancing With the Stars
While his future with the two franchises remains uncertain, Shum Jr. is bringing his Glee connection to the ballroom. He and his professional dance partner, Jenna Johnson, recently told People that their Dancing With the Stars routines can feature references to the musical comedy.
Shum Jr. teased, “Anything can happen.” He added, “So, there are songs that [we’d] have to adjust, but like, of course.” Johnson also shared their plans to include subtle nods to the show. She said, “We wanna do like [Glee] Easter eggs, I feel like, too.”
Shum Jr. welcomed the idea, explaining how the series remains an important part of his life and career. He added, “Those things are gonna be fun because you’re gonna see those elements because I know that that was a big part of my career and my life.”
The planned Easter eggs will give fans a chance to revisit Shum Jr.’s time on Glee through his dance performances. Meanwhile, his comments leave open the possibility of future appearances in both franchises.
