EPL Predictions: Premier League Picks for This Weekend
Hull City-Ipswich Town Draw (+230)
Ipswich Town at Hull City — 11:00 a.m. ET
I’m taking the draw between Hull City and Ipswich Town in what looks like an extremely competitive matchup. The two sides are level on 10 points through eight matches, with Hull sitting 10th and Ipswich 12th. Hull are 2-4-2 overall and 1-3-0 at home while Ipswich are 3-1-4 overall and 1-0-3 on the road.
Hull have also been difficult to separate from opponents recently. The Tigers are winless across their last five league matches, but three of those games have ended in draws, including a 2-2 result against Everton and a 2-2 draw at Chelsea. Ipswich have gone 2-1-2 over their last five and most recently drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest.
The matchup also sets up for a close scoreline. Hull have conceded only eight goals through eight matches while Ipswich have scored 12 but conceded 16.
In a matchup with both sides will be desperate to avoid defeat, I’m backing draw at these odds.
Mohammed Kudus Goal or Assist (+110)
Crystal Palace at Tottenham — 1:30 p.m. ET
Mohammed Kudus to score or assist is my favorite player prop of the weekend. The Tottenham winger has appeared in seven Premier League matches this season and has recorded two assists in 365 minutes. His two assists have come over his last four league appearances, including an assist in Tottenham’s 3-1 win over Coventry.
The underlying numbers support the idea that Kudus is becoming more involved as his fitness improves. He has started three matches and has nine shots, six key passes and two assists, while one current data set gives him 0.46 expected goals and 0.51 expected assists. He also recorded an assist against Aston Villa earlier this season.
Kudus has now played 87 and 89 minutes in his last two Premier League appearances, another indication that his role is expanding.
At home versus a beatable Palace back line, Kudus can score or assist for a suddenly in-form Spurs side.
Liverpool-Arsenal Draw (+230)
Arsenal at Liverpool — 11:30 a.m. ET Sunday
Liverpool enter the match with a 4-3-1 Premier League record while Arsenal are 6-0-2, but the two clubs have been separated by very little in recent meetings. Five of the last 10 meetings have ended in draws.
Liverpool are 1-2-1 at home this season while Arsenal are 3-0-1 away, so neither side has been dominant in the specific environment this matchup creates. Arsenal’s defense has been particularly strong, per usual, with the Gunners entering the weekend having kept five clean sheets and allowing just 24 shots on target all season, both league-best marks.
All in all, while Arsenal deserve to be slight ML favorites (+145), I think we’ll ultimately see the Reds and Gunners share the points on Sunday.
Soccer Betting FAQ
What is a moneyline bet in soccer?
A moneyline bet is a wager on which team will win the match. Because soccer matches can end in a draw, most moneyline markets include three options: the home team, the away team, or a draw.
What does “draw no bet” mean?
Draw no bet removes the draw as a losing outcome. If the match ends tied, your wager is refunded. If your team wins, the bet wins.
What is a soccer total?
A total is a bet on how many combined goals will be scored in a match. For example, an Over 2.5 Goals bet wins if at least three goals are scored.
What does “both teams to score” mean?
Both Teams to Score, often abbreviated BTTS, is a wager on whether each team will score at least one goal during the match.
