CORINTH, Miss. (WMC) – President Donald Trump is traveling to Corinth to endorse U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith and Representative Trent Kelly ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections.
Air Force One is set to land in Memphis before Trump travels to Mississippi. Trump’s visit to Corinth marks the first sitting presidential visit to the city since FDR.
Hundreds lined up outside Monday morning waiting to get inside for Trump’s visit. Several people suffered medical emergencies, but Secret Service officials said that was likely due to standing outside so long with no water.
Linda Montgomery, a Corinth native who plans to vote for Cindy Hyde-Smith, said she is nervous for the election.
“Just don’t know which way it’s going to go, and if somebody new comes in what are the policies going to be and changes…I am more afraid of the communist coming in in the socialists,” she said.
The Crossroads Arena in Corinth holds more than 7,700 people. Some say they traveled from Tennessee, Alabama and Ohio to see the president.
City prepares for Trump’s visit
Corinth city leaders are not closing any streets while President Trump is in town. Attendees of the president’s rally are asked to follow posted parking guidelines and watch for additional updates throughout the day.
A mobile cell phone tower was brought to the Crossroads Arena. The city’s road department also repainted traffic lines around the area.
Democratic nominee responds
Ahead of President Trump’s arrival in the Mid-South, Mississippi Democratic Senate nominee Scott Colom held a news conference in Corinth.

Colom said he wants to send a message to President Trump: that Trump and his opponent, Cindy Hyde-Smith, are not listening to voters in Mississippi. He also told voters that multiple promises have been broken.
Colom asked voters the following questions:
“Do you want someone who will continue to allow President Trump and the America First movement to violate everything they said they were going to do to help Mississippi? Are you going to elect someone that’s actually fight for the values that make Mississippi great? Actually fight for the promises made to the people of Mississippi? Because we actually do need lower grocery prices. We do need to get out of endless wars. We do need to release the Epstein files. We do need to make sure people have health care and hospitals. And the only way we are going to do that is we have to elect people that are willing to show up, that are willing to listen, and actually fight for the people of Mississippi,” Colom said.
Colom said, if elected, he will be a leader for every Mississippian: Democrats, Republicans and independents.
