Nottingham Forest secured a 3-1 victory against Manchester City at City Ground on Saturday, handing the visitors their third consecutive Premier League defeat.
Goals from Jair Cunha and former City striker Liam Delap gave Forest a 2-0 lead inside the opening 18 minutes before Rayan Cherki pulled one back early in the second half.
Delap struck again late in the match to restore Forest’s two-goal advantage and seal a deserved victory for the hosts.
Forest made a flying start, taking the lead in the sixth minute when Cunha dispossessed Josko Gvardiol, drove forward and fired into the bottom corner past goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Delap doubled the advantage 12 minutes later, finishing on an individual run to leave City facing an uphill battle.
Manchester City struggled to find their usual attacking rhythm but gradually improved as the first half progressed. Enzo Fernandez missed a close-range header from Marc Guehi’s delivery, Erling Haaland saw an effort cleared off the line by Cunha five minutes before the break.
City manager Enzo Maresca introduced Matheus Nunes and Nico O’Reilly at halftime, and the changes quickly paid dividends.
Cherki brought the visitors back into contention with a superb half-volley early in the second half, sparking hopes of a comeback.
City pushed for an equalizer, with Haaland narrowly missing the target with a curling effort, but their attacking approach left spaces at the back.
Forest capitalized on the opportunity as Delap completed a swift counterattack with a powerful finish that went in off the post, making it 3-1 and securing all three points.
The defeat leaves Manchester City six points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal heading into the international break.
