Meanwhile, Sunderland ended a seven-game Premier League winless run by defeating Chelsea 1-0 at the Stadium of Light. Enzo Le Fee scored the match’s only goal from the penalty spot in the 36th minute after Brian Brobbey was brought down by Chelsea defender Levi Colwill. Sunderland had started the match strongly despite a recent 2-0 Europa League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb. Brobbey was instrumental in creating chances and winning the penalty.
Chelsea improved their play after half-time and gained more possession but could not break down Sunderland’s defence.
