Man Utd make unwanted history in Premier League clash against Aston Villa

It has been an eventful week at Old Trafford, with two unwanted stats from games against Roma and Aston Villa highlighting their defensive frailties in the opening stages of matches.

On Tuesday evening, Roma became the quickest side to score two goals at Old Trafford in major European competition, after Matias Soule and Donyell Marlen netted early on.

And five days later, another visiting side, Aston Villa, became the quickest team to go 2-0 up against United in the Premier League following another lapse in concentration at the back.

Unai Emery’s side took an early lead when Alysson Edward’s effort slipped through the legs of Senne Lammens, who should have done better.

Moments later, United‘s defensive problems continued when Lammens failed to gather another effort, allowing the in-form Nicolas Jackson to double Villa’s advantage with a simple finish from close range.

Michael Carrick’s side conceded two goals in just three minutes and 40 seconds, which is the earliest United have been 2-0 down in a Premier League game.

But to their credit, United bounced back soon after. They netted in the 15th minute after Matheus Cunha was brought down by Boubacar Kamara inside the penalty area.

Bruno Fernandes converted to make it 2-1, and just before half-time, Youri Tielemans scored against his former club to level the score.

Dimitar Berbatov’s live reaction to seeing Man Utd drop into the relegation zone is going viral

At the time of writing, United are still in the Premier League relegation zone with eight points from 10 games.

Ahead of kick-off on Sunday, Dimitar Berbatov was in disbelief after his former side dropped into the Premier League relegation zone following Nottingham Forest’s victory over Manchester City

He watched on as goals from Jair Cunha and a Liam Delap (2) secured a 3-1 victory for Oliver Glasner’s side, lifting them out of the relegation zone and above the Reds into 16th place.

After the full-time whistle, beIN Sports decided to get Berbatov‘s live reaction to the bottom half of the Premier League table.

“I don’t believe that,” he said, after putting his head in his hands. “The way United are playing, they deserve to be there, honestly. But tomorrow, they have a game.”
