Fresh off wrapping production as Hal Jordan in HBO’s highly anticipated DC Universe series Lanterns, Kyle Chandler is returning to screens in one of his most intense television roles. All four seasons of the crime drama Mayor of Kingstown, starring Chandler alongside Jeremy Renner, officially joined Netflix’s streaming library on Oct. 5 under a non-exclusive licensing deal with Paramount+.
Created by Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, the acclaimed series originally debuted on Paramount+ in November 2021 before completing its fourth season in late 2025. The drama takes place in the fictionalized town of Kingstown, Michigan, where the local economy is dominated by seven power-brokering correctional facilities.
The series follows the McLusky family as they deal with inmates, prison gangs, street criminals, correctional officers, and law enforcement.
Renner leads the cast as Mike McLusky, while Chandler guest-stars as his older brother, Mitch McLusky.
What is Mayor of Kingstown with Kyle Chandler about?
The story centers on Kingstown’s prison system and the people who operate it. With incarceration serving as the town’s main economic force, different groups compete for control while the McLusky family tries to prevent conflicts from turning into larger outbreaks of violence.
Mitch is the first member of the family to serve as the town’s unofficial mediator. He uses his connections with inmates, criminals, and authorities to negotiate between groups and maintain order.
That role changes quickly. Mitch is killed inside his private office during the first episode, leaving Mike to take over the position he had spent years trying to avoid. Mike then becomes responsible for managing the relationships between Kingstown’s criminal organizations, prison population, and law enforcement.
The show has run for four seasons (40 episodes). Alongside Renner and Chandler, the cast includes Dianne Wiest, Taylor Handley, and Tobi Bamtefa. Edie Falco and Lennie James joined the series later.
With all four seasons of Mayor of Kingstown now streaming on Netflix, viewers can binge Chandler’s stellar performance before his superhero debut in Lanterns.
