Preschoolers at The Goddard School in Plymouth recently got a hands-on introduction to broadcast journalism during a special visit from CCX News anchor Emily Haugen in honor of World News Day.
During the visit, the young students stepped behind the anchor desk, practiced using real microphones and tried their hand at interviewing. The interactive session gave them a taste of how news reporting works, featuring lighthearted conversations about their favorite colors, sports and pets at home.
“So I just asked all of them what their favorite color is, so I’ll ask that to you, too,” Haugen asked one student during a practice interview. “What is your favorite color?”
“Purple!” the student replied.
“Why is purple your favorite color?”
“I don’t know!”
The activity aligns directly with the school’s focus on inquiry-based learning, according to school owner Anthony Miller.
“I think any time you can add curiosity to anything, kids learn well with that,” Miller said.
The Goddard School frequently hosts visitors from various professional backgrounds to introduce students to different career paths and foster early curiosity about the world around them.
