Johnny Depp’s Ebenezer Hates Halloween Even More Than Christmas in New Video

Johnny Depp will be transforming into Ebenezer this Christmas. However, the character, originally created by Charles Dickens for A Christmas Carol, appears to dislike Halloween even more than Christmas.

After releasing the official trailer earlier this month, Paramount Pictures has shared a new Ebenezer video ahead of Halloween. The clip opens with two young girls asking Ebenezer, “Trick or Treat?” Instead of giving them candy, Depp’s character frowns and shuts the door in their faces.

As the video continues, more children visit his house hoping to get a treat. Each time, Ebenezer opens the door only to turn them away. In several instances, he even throws the candy onto the street rather than handing it to the children.

The movie is scheduled to open in theaters on November 13, 2026.

Johnny Depp’s Ebenezer reimagines the classic Scrooge story

Directed by Ti West, Ebenezer is a gothic horror retelling of Charles Dickens’ 1843 novella A Christmas Carol, starring Johnny Depp. In the film, Depp plays the title character, Ebenezer Scrooge, marking his return to a leading role in a major studio film.

Nathaniel Halpern wrote the screenplay, which is based on Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. The official synopsis for Ebenezer reads, “This November, prepare to be ghosted. Johnny Depp is the deliciously unpleasant Ebenezer Scrooge in a thrilling reimagining of the most iconic ghost story of all time. On one unforgettable Christmas Eve, Ebenezer collides with his past, present, and future on a supernatural journey that will decide his ultimate fate. If you think you know his story, think again.”

Ebenezer is rated PG-13 for frightening content. The movie will incorporate psychological horror and a dark atmosphere. Rather than presenting a purely cozy holiday story, the film emphasizes the supernatural elements of Dickens’ tale.

The film’s cast also includes Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, Arthur Conti, Ellie Bamber, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Charlie Murphy, Tramell Tillman, and Ian McKellen.
