For his first squad as the coach of Germany, Jürgen Klopp has selected 44 players divided into two groups for four Nations League matches between September 24 and October 4.
Jürgen Klopp called up 44 players on Thursday, September 17, divided into two groups for his first four matches in charge of Germany in the Nations League. The new coach thus begins his tenure with an expanded squad, intended to be assessed over two distinct periods.
A first group of 24 players will face the Netherlands on September 24 in Amsterdam, then Greece on September 27 in Augsburg. The German Football Association (DFB) specifies that the majority of these players will then return to their clubs.
Twenty other players will then join the squad to host Serbia on October 1 in Munich before traveling to Greece on October 4 in Thessaloniki. This arrangement allows Klopp to broaden his assessment right from his first international window.
The list includes eleven players called up to the senior team for the first time, among them Hennes Behrens, Younes Ebnoutalib, Vitaly Janelt, Felix Keidel, and Derry Scherhant. Marc-André ter Stegen, Serge Gnabry, Yann Aurel Bisseck, and Chris Führich are also among the returning players.
Appointed as the coach of Germany on July 24, Klopp succeeded Julian Nagelsmann after Germany’s elimination at the 2026 World Cup. His contract with the DFB runs until the 2030 World Cup.
The 59-year-old coach explained that he chose a different approach for this first list. He wants to prepare an expanded group of players to perform at the highest level with the national team over the next two or three years.
