Stephen King has officially weighed in on Prime Video’s adaptation series, Carrie. Reacting to the new show, the popular author also shared a cryptic update, catching the attention of viewers.
In a video shared on his X handle, King says he is watching the show on Prime Video with his dog, Molly. He also hopes viewers will watch the series. Highlighting director Mike Flanagan, King offered his high praise for the filmmaker’s work on the project. “He is the best adapter of my work,” the 79-year-old said. The praise also stands out as Flanagan previously brought King’s other stories to the screen.
He also hinted at future collaborations if the series performs well, saying, “If you like this and enough people watch it, we might be doing something else that’s really special.” However, the author did not reveal anything concrete about the project, adding that he cannot talk about it yet.
The new Carrie series marks another Stephen King adaptation for Mike Flanagan
Prime Video’s Carrie series adds to Mike Flanagan’s growing list of adaptations of Stephen King’s horror fiction work. The filmmaker previously brought King’s Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep to the screen, earning strong praise from both horror fans and critics.
Released on Netflix in 2017, Gerald’s Game follows a woman struggling to survive after her husband dies, leaving her handcuffed to a bed in a remote lake house. She must find a way to escape while confronting her childhood trauma and inner demons.
Similarly, Doctor Sleep follows a man struggling with alcoholism and the childhood trauma he experienced at the Overlook Hotel.
Carrie marks his fourth adaptation of Stephen King’s work. King also executive produced the miniseries alongside Flanagan and Trevor Macy. It tells the story of a teenage girl struggling with constant bullying while trying to control her newly emerging telekinetic powers.
If the Summer H. Howell-led series draws enough viewers, fans may see another King-Flanagan collaboration in the future, as King himself teased.
