After The Acolyte’s Cancellation, Leslye Headland’s New Body Horror Will Star Rosamund Pike

Oscar-nominated actress Rosamund Pike is set to lead an upcoming body horror film from The Acolyte creator and showrunner, Leslye Headland. The project will draw inspiration from the 2022 Finnish horror film Hatching.

According to Variety, Rosamund Pike has joined the cast of Feed and will also produce the upcoming horror film. The story follows a desperate mother named Erin, who “discovers an obscure collagen supplement that promises to make her tween gymnast daughter an influencer star.”

The description further teases, “The fame and success they crave come fast. But as her daughter goes viral, she begins a monstrous transformation.” Daniella Isaacs (People Who Knew Me) wrote the screenplay.

The film draws inspiration from Hatching, the 2022 Finnish horror movie directed by Hanna Bergholm, from a screenplay by Ilja Rautsi. The original film stars Siiri Solalinna, Sophia Heikkilä, and Jani Volanen. It currently holds a 92% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

In a statement, Pike opened up about what drew her to the project, noting that “long have I wanted to make a film that plays anarchically with our obsession with social media and self-improvement, our desire for fame without notable admirable skill and, let’s put it out there, the monstrosity of modern motherhood.”

The Gone Girl star further explained, “Feed deals with all these things. It tracks a Momfluencer, Erin, bent on her daughter’s domination of the digital space. Erin believes that success here will protect her daughter from the horrors of our fickle world… won’t it?” (via Deadline)

Meanwhile, Headland praised Isaacs’ screenplay, describing it as “audacious, disturbing, and deeply human.” She also hailed Pike as one of the “boldest actors working today.” The filmmaker added, “I couldn’t ask for better partners to take on the darker corners of this story, and I feel incredibly lucky to be making this film with two women whose work I admire so much.”

Beyond The Acolyte, Headland has worked on several other projects, including the 2012 comedy Bachelorette and the 2015 romantic comedy Sleeping with Other People. Feed does not yet have a release date.
