Winds of up to 135 kilometres an hour were recorded in Argyll and Bute in western Scotland and fallen trees and power cables blocked roads and rail lines across the country.

Storm Boelo, the second of two storms to hit the UK this weekend brought widespread travel disruptions and power outages to Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England on Sunday. The Met Office, the UK’s national forecaster, said Storm Boelo will bring a danger to life from flying debris and crashing waves.

Flood warnings are also in place, while airports, ferries, railways and roads have seen disruptions. Power outages have affected some 82,000 homes in Britain, nearly 60,000 in France and at least 10,000 in Germany. Boelo, pronounced “Boo-Loh”, has followed hard on the heels of storm Austen, which battered southern England, in particular, on Friday, before continuing across northern continental Europe

As the storm moved eastward into continental Europe, Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport warned travelers of cancellations and delays of flights to and from the busy aviation hub caused by strong winds that were battering the Netherlands. Belgium also took a battering – falling trees injured four people in Brussels on Saturday.

Two people were seriously hurt Saturday by scaffolding blown away by storm Austen’s winds during an autumn market at the town of Nastaetten near Frankfurt, German police said. Germany’s weather agency DWD predicted more powerful winds of up to 100 kilometres an hour on the northern coast on Sunday.

High wind and rain were expected in Denmark, Norway and parts of Sweden. Some ferries in the region were canceled, train services were suspended on some Swedish lines as a precaution and some trailers were barred from Denmark’s Great Belt Bridge.
