Dearborn Co. resident leads team to German football championship

(DRESDEN, DEU.) – A Hidden Valley resident has just led his team to a championship in Germany!

Greg Seamon is the head coach of the Dresden Monarchs which is one of 15 teams in the German Football League (GFL), which is a professional American football league.

Before going to Germany, Seamon had served as the Tight Ends coach for both the Dallas Cowboys and the Cleveland Browns.

He also spent several years as a scout for the Cincinnati Bengals as well as a coach at various college programs.

Seamon took the Dresden head coaching job in 2024 and led the team to a 25-5 record his first two seasons.

This third season has been the best as Dresden had an undefeated record going into the GFL Championship game on Saturday night.

They were tasked with facing reigning champion Potsdam in the GFL title game for the third consecutive year, which Dresden had lost each time.

Seamon’s team got revenge as Dresden beat Potsdam 27-19 to win their second championship title in team history.

He described the championship victory as overwhelming and a great success for the sport in Germany.

“Your goal is to win a title but playing a perfect season is so difficult, almost impossible. To do that in front of over 25,000 people here in Dresden in a great game that was exciting until the end, that is a great thing for the GFL and for American football in Germany,” Seamon told Radio Dresden.

Seamon has an Instagram page where he provides video tours of sites around Dresden. You can follow him here.
