X-Men is rounding up Charles Xavier’s students. While Cyclops, Jean, Angel, Storm, and Rogue have been cast, certain characters still have people in the running to play them. One such character is Iceman, aka Bobby Drake, one of the original members of the X-Men. Reportedly, Ben Wang is currently in talks to play the character.
As reported by Deadline, Gabriel LaBelle, Jackson Kelly, and Rhenzy Feliz have tested for the part as well, but Wang seems to be the most likely actor to play the role. Yet, what has caught fans off guard is Wang’s age. While there were some who weren’t so sure about his looks, his being 29 has given a few fans pause for thought. Many believe that while he might look younger than his age now, it may pose a problem later.
However, given that the actor has scores of projects like the upcoming The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping under his belt, he remains a strong pick for the character, age notwithstanding.
Who else is starring in the X-Men movie with Ben Wang?
The first actor of the X-Men side of Marvel was revealed in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Sadie Sink will be starring in the movie as Jean Grey. Subsequently, Kevin Feige revealed a large chunk of mutant cast members for the X-Men movie in 2028, along with the MCU’s first X-Men villain.
Kit Connor, Christopher Abbott, Samara Weaving, Inde Navarrette, Maya Boyd, and Asa Germann are all set to star in the X-Men movie. Adam Driver has been cast in the role of Mister Sinister, who has a storied history with characters like Cyclops, Jean Grey, and their son from the future, Cable. Fans who have seen X-Men’97 can expect some similar plot beats to translate to the big screen, given that Mister Sinister is involved in some of the most iconic stories of the X-Men.
Before the next X-Men establishes the next chapter for Marvel’s Merry Mutants, the last iteration of the characters will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. It will mark the last performance of Sir Patrick Stewart, who passed away earlier this week. Abbot has been cast as the MCU’s new Professor X.
