President Donald Trump lashed out on social media after losing out on the Nobel Peace Prize for another year, framing it as a snub against the entire United States.
In a Truth Social post on Saturday morning, Trump listed a litany of supposed achievements, including capturing Venezuela’s former president and ending what he described as eight wars while being close to “ending or settling” two more.
“Yet, with all of that I, or the United States of America, did not get the Noble Peace Prize. WOW!” Trump said.
His post follows a screed late on Friday about the award, in which he attacked a human rights lawyer who was this year’s honoree. On Truth Social, Trump wrote that “nobody has ever heard of” Navi Pillay, a South African jurist who was awarded the prize earlier that day for her work in international law. “I know nothing about this woman, and neither does anyone else!”
“The United States of America, represented by me, as your President, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but didn’t,” he lamented. He called the oversight “an indelible stain on Norway” and said the coveted prize “has been forever discredited by a handful of Radical Ideologues who are Anti-Democracy, and Enemies of Civilization!”
The Nobel Peace Prize has been a longstanding object of fixation for the president. He has repeatedly attacked Norway for not honoring him, even though its government does not choose the honorees. Nobel Peace Prize laureates are selected by a five-person panel on the Norwegian Nobel Committee, who are appointed by Norway’s parliament.
