Why the Google Pixel 10 is worth buying now: Amazon hits a new all-time low – Tech Advisor

If you want a premium Android phone without paying flagship prices for a Pro model, the Google Pixel 10 offers a combination of capable cameras, a high-refresh-rate OLED display and useful AI features in a relatively compact design.

The Google Pixel 10 is now available for £499 on Amazon, a saving of £50 (9%) against the typical price of £549. This is a new all-time low price for the phone. The price has recently fluctuated between £549 and £699, and even during the Prime Day sale at the end of July, the phone only dropped to £509. Amazon is now undercutting that previous deal by another £10. The Obsidian version with 128GB of storage is also an Amazon’s Choice product, with more than 200 purchases in the past month.

What the Google Pixel 10 has to offer

The Google Pixel 10 runs Android 17 and uses Google’s Tensor G5 chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM. This combination provides the hardware for everyday apps, multitasking, photography and Google’s AI features. The phone also supports Gemini, Google’s AI assistant, which you can use to access compatible AI tools and features.

Google promises seven years of updates, including new features and security updates. That gives the phone a longer support window than many Android devices and could make it a sensible choice if you prefer to keep your smartphone for several years.

The 6.3-inch FHD+ OLED display has a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. The higher refresh rate makes scrolling and animations look smoother than on a conventional 60Hz screen. An ultrasonic fingerprint scanner sits beneath the display, while Face Unlock offers an alternative way to unlock the phone.

The camera system combines a 48Mp main camera with a 13Mp ultrawide camera and a 10.8Mp telephoto camera offering 5x optical zoom. Google also advertises up to 20x Super Res Zoom, which uses computational processing to improve zoomed-in shots.

The 4,970 mAh battery is designed to provide more than 24 hours of use, according to Google. You can charge it using a USB-C cable at up to 30W or wirelessly at up to 15W with Qi2. The Qi2 standard also brings magnetic charging to the Pixel 10, making compatible magnetic chargers and accessories more convenient to use. Reverse wireless charging is available too, allowing you to charge compatible accessories from the phone.

The Pixel 10 supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6.0. You can use a nano-SIM alongside an eSIM, which is useful if you want to separate work and personal numbers or use a second mobile plan when travelling. The phone also has stereo speakers and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects both the front and back.

Storage is not expandable, so you should consider whether that capacity of 128GB will be enough for your photos, videos, apps and offline downloads over the next few years. The phone measures 152.8 x 72 x 8.6mm and weighs around 204g, making it a relatively compact option compared with larger flagship phones.

Why this offer is worth it

At £499, the Google Pixel 10 is cheaper than it was during the Prime Day sale at the end of July. The £10 difference is not enormous, but it does bring the phone to its new all-time low price.

We also reviewed the Pixel 10 and found it to be one of the strongest entry-level flagship phones available. The review praised its premium design, excellent cameras, Qi2 magnetic charging and useful AI features. The dedicated telephoto camera and magnetic charging are meaningful additions, particularly for anyone upgrading from an older Android phone.

There are some drawbacks to consider. The 128GB of storage feels limited for a flagship phone and that battery life is mixed. Customer feedback is similarly divided on battery performance, gaming and value for money, although users generally praise the camera quality, build quality, design and overall functionality. Some owners report that the phone responds quickly, while others have experienced performance issues during gaming.

If you prioritise photography, a manageable screen size, magnetic wireless charging and long-term software support, the Pixel 10 is a compelling option at £499. However, if you need lots of storage or put battery endurance and demanding gaming performance first, it is worth weighing up those limitations before buying.
