Starting today (Oct. 16), the Southbound Yacht Travel Scheme takes effect. Following the rollout of the Northbound Yacht Scheme in June this year, this marks another major measure for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It represents a crucial step toward two-way connectivity under the Greater Bay Area’s free yacht travel arrangement and will further boost maritime connectivity within the region.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government currently provides 5 anchorages with a total of 150 berths for visiting vessels. Meanwhile, many yacht clubs have rolled out dedicated daily mooring rates and point-to-point concessions for yachts under the Southbound Yacht Travel Scheme.

Applications for the Southbound Yacht Travel Scheme opened on Oct. 14. Owners or captains of Guangdong-registered yachts planning to sail south to Hong Kong may complete cross-border formalities as early as 30 days before arrival. Online declarations to Hong Kong and mainland authorities must be submitted no later than 30 hours before entering Hong Kong waters and 4 hours before leaving mainland waters, respectively, before the yachts can set sail for Hong Kong.
