Shufersal, an Israeli supermarket chain, said it was expanding its coffee range with additional brands and direct imports, including granulated coffee and Nespresso-compatible capsules. The company presented the move as part of a long-term effort to reduce its dependence on large suppliers.
The retailer said it now sells about 18 coffee brands across several categories and price levels. Its expansion in Israel’s coffee market is intended to give consumers more choice at competitive prices, according to the company.
The initiative began with Nagi Turkish coffee and Monro instant coffee. It now extends to ARNESTO granulated coffee and capsules compatible with Nespresso machines under the Vero, ARNESTO, and Caffe Dellucci brands, Shufersal said.
“Real competition in the food and retail market is measured by the price, quality, and variety the Israeli consumer receives,” said Tom Yonai, Shufersal Group’s vice president of communications and innovation. “That is why we are expanding direct imports while investing significantly in brand development to offer quality alternatives at competitive prices.”
The range includes locally produced coffee alongside imports. Walla reported that the Nagi Turkish coffee line is manufactured in Israel. Shufersal described the broader expansion as part of its strategy to develop brands and increase its independent sourcing.
Expansion comes amid higher coffee prices
The announcement follows reports of rising coffee prices on Israeli supermarket shelves. A June analysis published in The Jerusalem Post, based on an Institute for Retail Research survey, found that the average price across 35 coffee product and retailer observations rose 14.4% between June 2025 and June 2026. The sample included promotions and was not a uniform basket across all chains.
A separate Tel Aviv University study reported by the Post in October found that the average price of a 200-gram jar of Taster’s Choice coffee in neighborhood stores rose from NIS 31.40 to NIS 39.60 between September 2022 and August 2026, an increase of 26.1%.
Retailers broaden their own product ranges
Coffee has also featured in competing retailers’ efforts to expand their branded product offerings. When Carrefour launched its Israeli stores in May 2023, coffee capsules were among the products offered under its brand, alongside food, toiletries, and cleaning products.
Shufersal’s announcement did not include shelf prices, package sizes, or a comparison with equivalent competing products. It also did not specify which Nespresso machine systems the capsules fit.
