Oversight and document preservation
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee issued letters to private companies and the administration to preserve documents ahead of expected investigations in the Democrat-controlled next session of Congress. The committee issued letters to Elon Musk regarding the slowdown of Starshield in Ukraine.
The committee also issued letters to all of the ports, banks and private entities involved in the Russian diesel deal. A Democratic Senate aide said the letters were “a standard committee process to issue letters” for overall document preservation to people suspected of breaking the law or engaging in certain activities.

Democrats take control
Telemundo and La Nación projections, as carried by Diario, said Democrats won control of the United States House of Representatives and the Senate in the midterm elections. The House count reached at least 255 seats and the Senate was about 54 seats for Democrats versus 44 for Republicans, with two seats still to be decided.
Republicans had controlled both chambers until then with a 53-to-47 majority in the Senate. Trump distanced himself from the defeat of his candidates with the phrase “I wasn’t on the ballot,” according to El Español.
Michigan senator-elect sets priorities
Abdul El-Sayed said Michigan voters “rejected hate” after his historic win over Republican Mike Rogers.
El-Sayed said, “They embraced the idea that we are big enough to take on our challenges,” and he said voters were less concerned about “what somebody’s name is or how they pray.”
El-Sayed defeated Rogers by 7 percentage points in the Nov. 3 election, 52.5% to 45.5%, according to unofficial returns.
El-Sayed said he wants new Senate Democratic leadership and cited his preference for Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen to run for majority leader.
