Premier League Matchday 10 Preview

The 2026/27 Premier League enters Matchday 10 this weekend with another exciting round of fixtures, as clubs across the country battle for valuable points in the race for the title, continental qualification and survival.

Attention will be on Accra, where Hearts of Oak seek an immediate response to last weekend’s defeat when they host Heart of Lions, while second-placed FC Samartex 1996 face a difficult away test against Bechem United. The weekend’s standout encounter takes place at the Golden City Park, where Berekum Chelsea welcome Asante Kotoko in a potentially intriguing contest between two sides eager to improve their league positions.

League leaders Medeama SC will aim to maintain their impressive home record against Swedru All Blacks, while Aduana FC travel to Bibiani to face Gold Stars SC. Elsewhere, Port City FC host Basake Holy Stars, Dreams FC welcome Debibi United, and FC Ashanti Gold’04 seek back-to-back victories against struggling Young Apostles.

With the league table beginning to take shape, Matchday 10 promises crucial battles at both ends of the standings.

Hearts of Oak vs Heart of Lions

Hearts of Oak will be determined to return to winning ways after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to newly promoted Debibi United last weekend, bringing their four-game unbeaten run to an end. The Phobians remain third on the table with 17 points from nine matches and boast the league’s best defensive record, having conceded just three goals. They will draw confidence from their impressive home form, having won three and drawn one of their four matches at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium without conceding. Their 16-game unbeaten home league run also underlines the challenge facing Heart of Lions.

The Kpando-based side travel to Accra on the back of a 2-1 victory over Bechem United, which ended their three-game losing streak. They occupy 12th position with 11 points and will be eager to build on that important victory. However, their away form remains a concern, having lost three of their four matches on the road. Heart of Lions have also struggled in recent visits to the capital, losing two and drawing one of their last three league meetings with Hearts of Oak.

Bechem United vs FC Samartex 1996

Bechem United will seek to preserve their perfect home record when they welcome second-placed FC Samartex 1996 to the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park. The Hunters have won all four of their home league matches this season, scoring nine goals and conceding just twice. However, their inconsistent overall form, which has seen them record three defeats in their last five outings, leaves them eighth with 13 points. They will be encouraged by their outstanding home record against Samartex, having won all four previous league meetings at Bechem without conceding.

FC Samartex travel to Bechem in second place with 18 points, level with leaders Medeama SC, following a 1-0 victory over Gold Stars. The Timber Giants have recorded five victories in nine matches and conceded just five goals, highlighting their defensive strength. They have also been competitive away from home, suffering just one defeat in four matches on the road. However, their record at Bechem presents a significant challenge, having lost all four previous away league encounters against the Hunters without scoring.

Berekum Chelsea vs Asante Kotoko

The weekend’s standout fixture takes place at the Golden City Park, where Berekum Chelsea host Asante Kotoko in a contest between two former league champions seeking greater consistency.

Chelsea will be eager to bounce back from their 2-0 defeat to Aduana FC last weekend. The Blues sit 11th with 11 points but remain unbeaten at home this season, recording two wins and two draws while conceding just twice. They will also draw confidence from their recent home record against Kotoko, having won two and drawn three of their last six league meetings at the Golden City Park.

Asante Kotoko, meanwhile, head to Berekum after consecutive 1-1 draws against Medeama SC and in their previous league outing. The Porcupine Warriors occupy ninth position with 13 points and are still searching for their first away victory of the campaign. They have drawn three and lost one of their four away matches, conceding in all four encounters. Kotoko will need a more disciplined defensive performance to overcome a Chelsea side that has proved difficult to beat on home soil.

Port City vs Basake Holy Stars FC

Debutants Port City FC will look to extend their impressive start to life in the top flight when they host Basake Holy Stars at the Nana Boamah Darko II Park. The Kukurantumi-based side occupy fifth position with 15 points and have remained unbeaten in their four home league matches, recording two victories and two draws. They will be eager to maintain that record and strengthen their position among the league’s leading sides.

Basake Holy Stars, on the other hand, arrive in Kukurantumi following a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Dreams FC. The Anyinase-based side have slipped to 10th with 12 points and have struggled for goals, scoring just five in nine matches. Their away form is particularly worrying, having lost all four road fixtures, scoring once and conceding eight. They will need a significant improvement to end that disappointing run against an increasingly confident Port City side.

FC Ashantigold 04 vs Young Apostles

FC Ashanti Gold’04 will be targeting consecutive victories when they welcome Young Apostles to the Len Clay Stadium following their impressive 2-1 comeback win over Swedru All Blacks last weekend. The Obuasi-based side have climbed to sixth position with 14 points and remain unbeaten at home, recording three victories and one draw in their four matches. They will be confident of extending that impressive run against a Young Apostles side struggling for consistency.

Young Apostles remain in the relegation zone with six points after a difficult opening nine matches. The Wenchi-based side have managed just one victory and continue to struggle defensively, having conceded 13 goals. Their away form is particularly concerning, with their recent defeat to Asante Kotoko extending their winless league run on the road to 19 matches. They face a difficult assignment in Obuasi as they seek to end that unwanted record and revive their campaign.

Gold Stars FC Aduana FC

Gold Stars SC will be hoping to improve their league position when they welcome Aduana FC to the Duns Park. The Miners occupy 14th position with 10 points after recording five defeats in their opening nine matches. However, their home performances offer some encouragement, having secured two victories in four matches at Bibiani. They will also take confidence from their impressive record against Aduana, having won all five previous home league meetings without conceding.

Aduana FC travel to Bibiani in fourth position with 16 points following a convincing 2-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea. The Fire Club have recorded five victories in nine matches and conceded just five goals. However, their recent away performances have been less convincing, suffering consecutive 1-0 defeats after an encouraging start on the road. They will be determined to rediscover their early-season away form against a Gold Stars side eager to climb away from the lower half of the table.

Dreams FC vs Debibi United FC

Dreams FC will be looking to build on their first league victory of the season when they welcome newly promoted Debibi United FC to the Tuba AstroTurf. The Still Believe lads ended an eight-game winless run with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Basake Holy Stars last weekend. They remain 15th with six points and will be eager to secure their first home victory of the campaign. Their defensive struggles, having conceded 14 goals in nine matches, remain a major concern.

Debibi United travel to Accra following an impressive 1-0 victory over Hearts of Oak, a result that provided a significant boost to their survival campaign. The newcomers occupy 16th position with 10 points, just two points from safety. However, their away form has been disappointing, having lost all four matches on the road while scoring just once and conceding nine goals. They will hope to carry their recent confidence into this encounter and secure a valuable result against another side seeking consistency.

Medeama SC vs Swedru All Blacks

League leaders Medeama SC will be favourites to maintain their impressive run when they welcome Swedru All Blacks to the T&A Stadium. The Mauve and Yellow remain at the summit with 18 points after nine matches, having recorded five victories, three draws and just one defeat. They boast the league’s best attacking return with 15 goals and have also been impressive at home, winning all four matches at the T&A Stadium. Medeama will be determined to preserve that perfect home record and strengthen their position at the top.

Swedru All Blacks, meanwhile, will be seeking an immediate response after their 2-1 home defeat to FC Ashanti Gold’04 ended a three-game winning streak. The Black Magicians have dropped to seventh position with 14 points and will face a difficult assignment against a Medeama side that has been formidable in Tarkwa. They will, however, draw confidence from their recent 2-1 away victory over Young Apostles, which ended their difficult start on the road. They must produce another disciplined performance if they are to disrupt Medeama’s title charge.
