Shoppers have been told the store will close
Supermarket chain Co-op is shutting the doors of a well-used store in Plymouth, with shoppers being told it’s set to bow out by the end of November.
The store on Peverell Park Road, which has been called a “lifeline” for members of the community, has put a sign up in the window to say it will be closing at the end of the month.
The notice confirms the store will shut on Saturday, November 28. It said: “We’ll be closing our doors on [November 28, 2026].”
Anther sign next to the closure announcement said shoppers can find their “nearest store”, with a QR printed below.
Co-op has not confirmed the reason for the closure – but it comes as rumours swirl over the future of other branches.
One local said the elderly people who live in the area have “nothing nearby in Peverell to fall back onto”, adding the store on Mutley “is too far to walk” for a lot of people who rely on the shop.
The Herald has been told another Co-op store in the city and one on the outskirts could be next to go.
One person told The Herald that staff from at risk stores were told of upcoming closures last week.
The future of the stores is not known, but the news comes after the major supermarket chain announced it was cutting jobs in a bid to save £200m earlier this year.
The Herald has contacted Co-op about the future of stores in the Plymouth area.
