Mister Miracle’s Episode Runtime Update Isn’t What DCU Fans Want to Hear After Lanterns

Following the conclusion of Lanterns, an update has come out about the next show that DCU fans can look forward to. Peter Safran, co-head of DC Studios, recently revealed that each episode of the new animated series Mister Miracle will be roughly 30 minutes long.

Safran stated that Tom King’s experience with Lanterns improved his adaptation of Mister Miracle. He said, “I think that Tom King really learned a lot in his season of co-creating and executive producing Lanterns, and he adapted his book Mister Miracle fully on his own and wrote all eight episodes, and I think it’s just dynamite.”

Given Safran’s direct acknowledgment of King’s expertise in supporting the animated show’s production, some fans may still hold reservations regarding whether this new series will exhibit improved pacing compared to its predecessor.

Why might the Mister Miracle runtime update be disappointing for DCU fans after Lanterns?

One criticism leveled at Lanterns was that the show felt rushed. With episodes roughly an hour long, there were comments that eight hours was not nearly enough to tell the story it wanted to tell while doing all its characters justice. Mister Miracle will have even shorter episodes, clocking in at approximately 30 minutes. The shorter runtime raises questions about how the series will handle its story, although its format and narrative may differ significantly from Lanterns.

So far, the show has announced who will play Highfather’s son and his wife, Big Barda. The Hunger Games’ Josh Hutcherson has been cast as Mister Miracle. Mackenzie Davis is set to play the Fury, Big Barda.

In addition to the reported episode runtime, Peter Safran revealed that King had penned all the episodes of the show himself, based on his own 2017 run on the character, titled Mister Miracle. Tom King’s familiarity with the source material could help shape the series’ pacing, though the final result remains to be seen.
