These are difficult times for Florian Wirtz. The German has yet to hit the heights expected of him since leaving Bayer Leverkusen, and that is starting to show in his valuation. In Transfermarkt’s latest update, his market value has fallen from approximately $117 million to $99.5 million, the biggest drop in the Premier League.
Even his outstanding performance against Greece during the recent international break could not halt the slide. With Jürgen Klopp on the sidelines, Wirtz took charge for Germany and offered another reminder of his ability. He had a hand in both goals, first setting up Tom Bischof for a simple finish, then scoring the second himself with an exquisite first touch before putting the ball away. At Liverpool, however, he is still struggling to find his stride.
It is a very different picture from the one surrounding his arrival at Anfield in 2025. Wirtz joined Liverpool as the star of Xabi Alonso’s unbeaten Leverkusen team, with a market value of approximately $164 million that placed him among the world’s most highly valued players. Barely a year later, his Transfermarkt valuation has fallen by around $64 million. That represents a loss of almost 40% of his value.
Aside from occasional flashes, his performances in England remain well below expectations. Liverpool’s stuttering campaign under Arne Slot did little to help him settle. His output dropped from 16 goals and 16 assists in his final season at Leverkusen to just five goals and eight assists in his first year at Anfield. The early weeks of Andoni Iraola’s tenure have brought little change, with just one assist in six appearances.
Wirtz loses valuation ground
Nobody in the Premier League has suffered a bigger drop. The closest are Arsenal pair Martín Zubimendi, down from approximately $88 million to $76 million, and Viktor Gyökeres, from $76 million to $64 million, along with Tottenham’s Richarlison, whose valuation has fallen from $29 million to $17.5 million. Alejandro Garnacho’s slide also continues, with his value dropping from around $33 million to $26 million.
The contrast with those gaining ground in the latest update is striking. Enzo Fernández, Rayan Cherki and João Pedro have each gained approximately $23 million in value, taking their valuations to around $140 million, $129 million and $117 million, respectively. When Wirtz arrived at Liverpool, he was among the elite on this list. Barely a year later, he is watching other players overtake him.
But we’re only a handful of games into the new Iraola evolution, and some fans still believe he will come good.
