Clark Gregg may have just confirmed what Marvel fans have been hoping for since 2020. The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star’s latest social media activity hints at a surprising comeback in an upcoming MCU series.
Clark Gregg’s Zodiac story ramps up Phil Coulson’s return speculation
Clark Gregg recently shared the official Zodiac logo on his Instagram Story, fueling speculation about Phil Coulson’s return to the MCU.
The actor, who portrayed the beloved S.H.I.E.L.D. agent across multiple Marvel projects, offered no caption or context with the post. Marvel fan account @marvel_updat3s spotted the tease and shared it on X (formerly Twitter), where it quickly gained over 253,000 views.
Marvel Television unveiled Zodiac during its New York Comic-Con panel on October 8. The live-action spy thriller will arrive on Disney+ in 2028. Marvel Television chief Brad Winderbaum confirmed filming begins in London next spring. He also noted casting would start in the “next couple of weeks.”
Zodiac is the first new live-action Marvel series announced since Ironheart last year. The announcement comes as several MCU shows wrap up their runs. Wonder Man was canceled months after its January premiere despite an Emmy nomination for lead actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Daredevil: Born Again will also conclude with its upcoming third season.
Gregg first played Coulson in 2008’s Iron Man and reprised the role across several MCU films. He later led ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for seven seasons from 2013 to 2020. The character was killed off in The Avengers but later resurrected for the television series.
Marvel has not officially confirmed Gregg’s involvement in Zodiac. The spy thriller premise does align with Coulson’s espionage background within S.H.I.E.L.D. Fans are now eagerly awaiting casting announcements expected in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, VisionQuest premieres on October 14, capping the WandaVision trilogy before attention shifts to Marvel’s next slate of projects.
