American Idol judge Jennifer Hudson has set the record straight on marrying Common. Together since July 2022, the two first met while portraying a married couple in the film “Breathe.” Common went public with their relationship on “The Jennifer Hudson Show” in January 2024, and Hudson later confirmed their romance at the Daytime Emmys.

Jennifer Hudson has opened up about her joyful romance with Common and addressed wedding speculations.
The talk show host spoke fondly about her partner while appearing on TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle on Tuesday. Reflecting on their relationship, Hudson said, “It’s been divine, every bit of that. To have somebody who you can relate to on so many different levels and then to be able to have some support. I’m like, ‘Can you please come and do a song at Madison Square Garden?’ To come out and perform and to do one of my favorite songs, which is ‘Glory,’ he blessed us with that.”
Now in its fourth season since its 2022 debut, her talk show keeps her busy. Weighing in on that, Hudson shared that she’s thankful to have a supportive partner who can step in at a moment’s notice. She explained, “It’s nice to have somebody else to call. ‘Do you mind hosting the show for me today?’ ‘Cause he can talk.”
As for her marriage plans, Jennifer Hudson said that she’s truly enjoying where she is right now and feels no rush to take the relationship further just yet. The American Idol judge shared, “I’ve never been that girl that feels like, ‘Okay, I’ve gotta get married.’ I think that’s a stigma that’s placed on women. Automatically, we just wanna be married. I’ve never been that girl. So no, I’m not that girl.” That said, the “Spotlight” singer noted that it will happen naturally if and when it feels right for them.
Alongside her love life, Jennifer Hudson also spoke on TODAY about producing the upcoming Broadway revival of “Dreamgirls.”
