The Step Show: Greek Excellence on Display

On Friday (Oct. 16), Burr Gymnasium hosted Howard’s highly anticipated Greek Step Show. The Divine Nine organizations brought stepping, synchronized movements, chants and precision to the stage. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. walked away with trophies, but you’d better believe all of the organizations put on a show!

Yard Fest: The Heart of Homecoming

Yard Fest returned for two days of music, community and Bison pride. Friday’s concert kicked off with performances from musicians like Fridayy, Sexy Redd, BabyChiefDoit and YKNiece. Saturday’s Reunion Day included even more festivities.

The event brought together students and alumni for live entertainment and the unmistakable energy of the Yard. Howard’s official alumni programming also featured an Alumni Tent, giving returning Bison a place to reconnect while enjoying the celebration.

Football and Tailgates: Bison Pride Takes Over

Then, there was the event fans had been waiting for: the Howard Bison took on the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers in the homecoming football game. It was the first time the schools faced off during homecoming since 1997, and they did not disappoint! HU pulled off the win, 31-17.

The historic rivalry added another layer of excitement to the weekend, as fans gathered in blue and white to support their team. Yard Fest Day 2, family activities and alumni gatherings rounded out the day, while tailgates and social events gave friends and graduates more opportunities to reconnect.

Fashion remained a major part of the Homecoming experience. The Student Fashion Show on Thursday (Oct. 15) showcased student creativity, individuality and forward-thinking design. Beyond the runway, the Yard became a style destination of its own, with attendees bringing statement pieces, coordinated outfits, sneakers and accessories that reflected their personalities. The Root’s 2026 Homecoming fashion gallery captured some of the looks that made the weekend a visual celebration of Black style.

Celebrities and Star Power

Celebrity culture was woven into the week’s programming, too. From rappers Method Man and Quavo to “A Different World” actor Cornell Young IV and Howard alumnus Lance Gross, all of the stars were in town, bringing entertainment, fashion and alumni connections together.

When the Crowds Took Over D.C.

Homecoming extended well beyond campus. Massive crowds prompted road closures around Howard as the city accommodated the influx of visitors. The university announced transportation adjustments and street restrictions throughout the week, underscoring the event’s reach across the surrounding community.

Ultimately, Howard’s 2026 Homecoming was about more than parties, performances and standout outfits. “Wildest Dreams” celebrated generations of Bison whose achievements continue to shape Black excellence. From the step show to the football field, the runway to the Yard, Howard once again demonstrated why Homecoming remains a cultural tradition that brings people back year after year.
