MELBOURNE – A young Greek-Australian with a passion for fashion has recently launched her own clothing line designed to make individuals feel confident, empowered and express who they are.
Meet Evanthia Ghikas, the 26-year-old behind Melbourne-based brand Fovos Clothing – a streetwear label inspired by the bustling city that offers premium-quality, bold, and comfortable pieces.
Named after the Greek word for ‘fear’, Fovos represents a moment between feeling hesitant and actually choosing to take a step forward.
Speaking to The National Herald, Evanthia Ghikas explained how the brand was born from her own personal experiences with fear and anxiety.
“I realized these are feelings that so many people experience and that can sometimes hold us back from being who we truly want to be,” Ghikas told TNH.
“Instead of seeing fear as something we need to hide, Fovos is about turning it into expression and confidence. Fashion can have such a big impact on how we feel, so I wanted to create pieces that people can put on and genuinely feel good in.”

The idea behind Fovos Clothing
As a clothing brand designed to resonate with everyone, Ghikas explained how it was developed while keeping the concepts of confidence, identity, and self-expression in mind.
“The clothing itself is simple, wearable, and easy to style. I want the pieces to naturally fit into your everyday life but still have something about them that makes you feel confident and stand out,” she explained.
“Fovos is more than just the clothing – it’s about how you show up as yourself. Some days you feel confident and certain, and other days you might not and I think that’s something everyone can relate to.”
“Ultimately, I want people to wear Fovos in their own way, make it part of their own journey and feel like the brand represents something personal to them.”

Launching the brand
When asked about how the idea came about to launch Fovos Clothing, the Greek business founder expressed how it was always something she wanted to do – but never pursued until earlier this year.
“I knew I didn’t want it to just be about selling clothes – I wanted to create something that people could resonate with on a deeper level and feel connected to,” Ghikas said.
“Fovos had been in the works for quite a while behind the scenes, but in March 2026 I finally decided to go ahead with it and officially launch the brand. It’s still very much a journey and I’m learning as I go, but it’s exciting to finally see something I’ve thought about for years come to life.”
As someone who’s worked in the fashion industry for the last five years, Ghikas said her knowledge and skills equipped her for the venture, allowing her to gain a great understanding of how a business operates, and the creative process behind developing products.
“I love being involved in every part of building the brand – from developing the pieces and choosing colors to branding, content – and eventually seeing people wearing something I’ve created. I think that’s probably one of the most rewarding parts for me.”

Waiting for the perfect time
Before officially launching, Ghikas constantly found herself waiting for the ‘perfect time’ to build the brand, however, eventually she realized she needed to take that leap and go for it.
“In a way, that decision actually connects perfectly with what Fovos represents – pushing past fear and hesitation and choosing to take that step, even when you don’t know exactly where it’s going to lead,” the Fovos Clothing founder expressed.
Ghikas said that after launching, she felt a great sense of pride seeing it all come together.
“If sharing my own journey can help someone feel more confident, take a chance on themselves, or realize they’re not alone in how they feel – that would mean so much to me. I want my brand to be more than clothing. I want it to be a voice and a reminder to keep showing up for yourself,” she said.

Launching Fovos Clothing was special for Ghikas, as it reflected not only her love for fashion and designing, but a part of who she is, being someone who was born in Australia, moved to Athens when she was six, and then returned to Australia in her teen years for better opportunities.
“Even though I’ve built my life here in Australia, Greece has always felt like home to me…that’s why incorporating my Greek heritage into Fovos feels so personal. Even the name itself, coming from the Greek word for ‘fear’, gives me a way to bring a piece of where I come from into something I’m building here in Australia.”
She added: “Launching Fovos…connects two important parts of my identity – the life I’ve built in Australia and the culture and memories I have from growing up in Greece. In a way, Fovos makes me feel that little bit closer to home, because Greece will always be home to me no matter where I am.”

Future goals
Although just online for now, the Fovos founder said one of her biggest long-term goals is to open a store.
“I’d love to eventually create a space where people can come in, see and feel the pieces in person, try everything on and really experience what Fovos is about,” Ghikas said.
“I think having a physical store would also give me the opportunity to bring the whole identity of Fovos to life and create more of a community around the brand. It’s definitely a big goal of mine, but for now I’m focused on growing the online side, building the brand, and taking everything one step at a time.”
The Greek-Australian clothing brand owner additionally shared that she has a lot in store for her business, and is very excited to reveal more products soon.
