- Zcash experienced a notable 11% gain, trading near $1,260, ahead of its upcoming network upgrade scheduled for November.
- Despite some gains, Zcash remains about 12% lower for the month, and the overall market shows signs of hesitation with futures and options trading reflecting caution.
- Elon Musk’s companies, SpaceX and Tesla, are considering a merger, which could consolidate their significant Bitcoin holdings but may not lead to increased purchases.
Wednesday brought a better morning for cryptocurrency investors, though the push came largely from outside the market. Encouraging U.S. technology earnings lifted Asian stocks, and Bitcoin followed, reaching roughly $83,500 for the first time in a week.
South Korea’s Kospi gained 3.29%, with Nasdaq 100 futures also moving higher. Results from SpaceX and Super Micro Computer helped renew interest in technology shares. For crypto investors, the connection is familiar: when traders are willing to take more risk in equities, Bitcoin can benefit as well.
The clearest move within crypto came from Zcash. ZEC traded near $1,260 after an approximately 11% gain over 24 hours, helped by news that its next network upgrade, NU7, is scheduled for November. The change would reduce the time between blocks from 75 seconds to 25, making payment confirmations faster. It also revises how transaction fees are set aside for future distribution.
Yet Zcash has not recovered all its recent losses. Even after Wednesday’s jump, the token remained about 12% lower for the month. Its futures open interest, a measure of outstanding contracts, rose 24%, suggesting traders were adding leveraged positions rather than simply buying coins outright.
Elsewhere, Ether moved toward $2,460, while NEAR gained about 6%. The gains were uneven. Some decentralized-finance tokens declined, showing that the improving mood hadn’t reached every corner of the market.
Away from daily price movements, SpaceX and Tesla are also attracting attention. Elon Musk said both companies have formed special committees to consider a possible merger. Between them, they hold more than 30,000 Bitcoin, worth roughly $2.5 billion at current prices. If the deal goes ahead, those holdings would come together under one company. That wouldn’t necessarily mean more Bitcoin being purchased, however.
As for the wider market, there is still some hesitation despite Wednesday’s gains. Futures activity has picked up, but the amount of money tied up in outstanding contracts remains well below previous highs. Options trading tells a similar story, with investors still paying for protection against a possible decline.
Bitcoin has enjoyed a lift from the recovery in technology stocks. The question now is whether buyers will stick around once that initial enthusiasm wears off.
