A new update reveals Sony‘s distribution strategy for Sam Mendes‘ upcoming Beatles movies. The project’s co-producer, Pippa Harris, has shared the release schedule, confirming that the four-film series won’t arrive until 2028.
Speaking at the BFI London Film Festival on Monday, the co-producer confirmed that all four films are planned for release in April 2028. According to The Hollywood Reporter, they are currently expected to arrive in theaters a week apart. Harris also confirmed that the crew is on day 180 of shooting.
The British producer also added that audiences will not be expected to watch all four films in one sitting. Fans could see one a week, or catch a pair on a weekend. “However you see it, I think our hope is that people will see all four films.”
Speaking on the movies, she said, “They stand alone as individual stories of each of those four men, but they have a cumulative power, which I think is greater than the sum of their parts.”
What we know about the Beatles movies’ 2028 theatrical rollout
Titled The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, it consists of four individual movies, each focusing on one member of the legendary band. In addition to directing, Mendes is also co-producing them alongside Harris, Julie Pastor, and Alexandra Derbyshire.
Paul Mescal, Harris Dickinson, Joseph Quinn, and Barry Keoghan star as Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, respectively. The supporting cast is huge. Saoirse Ronan plays Linda McCartney, while James Norton portrays Brian Epstein. Mia McKenna-Bruce stars as Maureen Starkey, and Anna Sawai is Yoko Ono. The list continues with Aimee Lou Wood, Harry Lloyd, David Morrissey, Leanne Best, Bobby Schofield, Daniel Hoffmann-Gill, Arthur Darvill, and Adam Pally.
Apple Corps Ltd. and the Beatles’ members and estates have given full life-story and music rights for the project. Recent set footage from London shows the main cast portraying the band members and recreating moments from the band’s early years.
