AMD says its latest optional Radeon graphics driver addresses an intermittent crash when launching Steam, alongside game hangs and overlay conflicts affecting several graphics card families.
Adrenalin Edition 26.10.2, whose notes were updated October 30, is a Windows driver. AMD lists Radeon RX 5000, 6000, 7000 and 9000 desktop families among supported hardware, but the fixes apply to the particular scenarios described in its release notes, not necessarily every crash.
The update is optional rather than a mandatory Steam patch. AMD also lists unresolved issues, including visual corruption in Phantom Blade Zero on Radeon RX 9000 cards and a specific Cyberpunk 2077 combination involving frame generation and video on a second display.
Steam and overlays get targeted fixes
AMD’s notes list an intermittent application crash when launching the Steam client on Radeon graphics. The company does not identify a specific game, card model or precise reproduction sequence for that entry, and the fix should not be read as a guarantee against every Steam startup failure.
Another fix addresses crashes or driver timeouts in some games when an overlay such as Xbox Game Bar is opened or closed while AMD’s own performance metrics overlay is enabled. Users who experienced the overlap can check the new driver, but AMD does not say every overlay-related problem has been resolved.
For Valor Mortis, AMD lists a fix for intermittent driver timeouts on the Radeon RX 7000 series and another for an intermittent system shutdown on RX 7600 products. A separate entry addresses an intermittent shutdown in Final Fantasy Resonance on Ryzen AI Max Pro 400 series processors.
What RX 9000 owners should check
The fixed-issues list includes an intermittent hang in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach with AMD FSR enabled on RX 9000 graphics. The same entry advises users experiencing that issue to disable FSR; AMD does not explain why the workaround remains alongside the listed fix.
AMD also lists a fix for intermittent hangs or crashes when switching applications or toggling overlays in games using in-game FSR Frame Generation on RX 9000 cards. That is separate from the still-open Cyberpunk 2077 issue, which AMD describes with FSR upscaling, Radeon Anti-Lag and in-game frame generation enabled while video plays on a secondary display. It recommends disabling in-game frame generation for that scenario.
Another unresolved issue can cause hair or sky corruption in Phantom Blade Zero on RX 9000 cards. AMD suggests turning off the game’s High-Quality Hair setting for the hair problem. Its notes also flag intermittent crashes or timeouts in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced on RX 7000 and a War Thunder timeout on RX 5000; for the latter AMD points affected users to driver 26.9.1.
Check the device before installing
AMD’s package supports Windows 10 and 11 64-bit on listed hardware. Its Radeon desktop compatibility list covers RX 9070, 9060 and 9050 series; RX 7900, 7800, 7700, 7650 and 7600; RX 6900 through 6400; and RX 5700 through 5300, along with selected professional cards and Ryzen processors with Radeon graphics.
For laptops and all-in-ones, AMD recommends system-manufacturer drivers validated for the device. It explicitly says this package does not support handheld gaming devices and directs those users to their device manufacturer. Check the full compatibility list and release notes before changing drivers.
