BYD Yangwang "HU" limousine targets Dubai debut around November 5, sources say

Pre-production units of BYD’s upcoming Yangwang flagship sedan, internally codenamed “Project HU,” have been spotted on transport flatbeds in China, amid reports that the company is preparing to ship them to the Middle East. Sources familiar with the project told CarNewsChina that BYD is targeting an unveiling in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, around November 5.

Yangwang Sales Division General Manager Hu Xiaoqing confirmed on October 21 that the brand would unveil its executive sedan in the UAE. However, the company has not announced an exact date or venue. The transport sightings add a new development to our October 23 report on the sedan’s exterior and road testing.

Coach doors and executive proportions

Earlier media reports estimated Project HU at approximately 5,500 mm long, with a wheelbase exceeding 3,350 mm. If accurate, these dimensions would put it in the same broad size category as the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class and Huawei’s JAC-built Maextro S800, which measures 5,480 mm long. BYD has not released official dimensions.

The images show apparent rear-hinged coach doors, an upright grille with split headlamps, a prominent C-pillar and privacy glass around the rear cabin. A roof-mounted LiDAR unit is also visible, confirming laser-sensing hardware on the photographed vehicle but not its final driver-assistance capabilities.

BYD has not confirmed HU’s motor configuration, power output, suspension specification or curb weight. Although other Yangwang models use the company’s e⁴ quad-motor architecture and DiSus active suspension, the sedan’s system configuration remains unconfirmed.

Pricing and market position

Chinese media reports estimate that Project HU could cost more than 2 million yuan (approximately 299,600 USD), but BYD has not announced a retail price.

For comparison, the 5,480 mm Maextro S800 has a reported price range of 728,000 to 1,018,000 yuan (approximately 109,000 to 152,500 USD). If the estimate for HU proves accurate, its price would be roughly twice the S800’s upper-end price.

Within BYD’s lineup, the Yangwang U7 performance sedan starts at 658,000 yuan (about 98,600 USD), while the extended-wheelbase U8L Dingcang Edition starts at 1,458,000 yuan (about 218,400 USD). Project HU would sit above both models if its reported price estimate proves accurate.

UAE debut and regional strategy

The planned unveiling would give Yangwang an international showcase in a market where BYD already has a distribution presence through Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility. The official Yangwang UAE website lists the U8 Arabian Edition at 659,900 AED (approximately 180,000 USD), providing a local reference point for the brand’s existing premium offering.

Yangwang has confirmed a UAE unveiling, but the sedan’s official name, powertrain, battery chemistry, retail price and sales timetable remain undisclosed. The November 5 target and Dubai venue have not been officially confirmed.
