The Galactic Empire’s ultimate villain could soon make a dramatic entrance in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord.
Voice actor Sam Witwer recently hinted that while Emperor Palpatine remains central to Darth Maul’s quest for vengeance, a future physical appearance by the Sith Lord might involve passing the microphone to a different performer.
During an interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub at FanX in Salt Lake City, Witwer broke down Chapter 8, “The Creeping Fear,” which dives deep into Maul’s fractured psyche.
The episode features haunting visions of both Savage Opress and Darth Sidious, both voiced by Witwer to reflect that the figures exist strictly as internal memories rather than living adversaries.
When asked about Palpatine manifesting in the flesh outside of Maul’s mind in potential future seasons, he said, “I will say something. The show is about revenge against Palpatine, correct? So let’s say that if at some point we were going to see that character outside of Maul’s head … I’m not sure I would be playing him.”
However, Witwer did not identify another actor for the role, so his comment does not confirm that Ian McDiarmid will return as Palpatine. It establishes that Witwer does not expect to voice the character if the Emperor appears as a separate, physical character in a future storyline.
