People across Waterford banded together in aid of Waterford Hospice Movement last week, for the national Coffee Morning for Hospice fundraiser, with local schools, businesses and everyday people setting up coffee mornings around the county.
Coffee Morning for Hospice is one of Ireland’s longest established fundraisers, running nationwide in aid of 26 hospice and specialist palliative homecare services around the country, with this year’s fundraiser said to be the biggest yet.
The Waterford branch, Waterford Hospice Movement (WHM), has been running as a hospice, homecare and palliative care service for the people of Waterford City and County, as well as South Kilkenny, since 1988, almost 40 years ago.
Waterford Hospice Movement provides patients with comforts, equipment, amenities, complementary therapies, counselling and support service for patients and their families through the South East Palliative Care Service, which was opened five years ago by donations from WHM.
These include supports for patients in their own homes, as well as patients availing of care in the South East Palliative Care Centre based in University Hospital Waterford.
Waterford Hospice Movement’s coffee morning had a host of local businesses, schools, social groups and individuals behind it this year.
In a recent Facebook post they said, “A heartfelt thank you to everyone who hosted an event, baked treats, poured a cup, or donated today in aid of Waterford Hospice.
“We are deeply grateful for your kindness and community spirit. Every cup counts, and all funds raised locally stay locally to provide comforts and supports for families right here in our community.
“Thank you for your continued support!”
Waterford’s largest coffee morning was seen in Tramore, as the Tramore Hospice Support Group hosted their annual coffee morning at the Majestic Hotel, where patients, families, supporters and members of the community joined together in aid of Waterford Hospice.
