Blake Griffin is bringing his sports commentary to late-night television with The Stepback, his upcoming series. The former NBA star has released the first trailer, previewing the show’s mix of sports commentary and comedy. Griffin will host the series in front of a live studio audience.
Instead of focusing solely on scores and game results, Blake plans to examine the broader issues shaping sports and fan culture. The project brings together Griffin’s basketball experience and his interest in comedy. Having worked as an analyst for NBA coverage on Prime Video, he now has another platform to share his views while taking a lighter approach to sports news.

What happens in The Stepback trailer?
The trailer opens with Griffin behind a late-night talk show desk in front of a live audience. It introduces the show as a mix of comedy and cultural analysis, with Griffin promising to “ask questions insiders won’t”. The format aims to look beyond the box score and explore subjects that often spark debate among fans.
The preview moves through several controversial topics, including sports gambling, Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals, marijuana use among athletes, analytics, and taxpayer-funded stadiums. Griffin’s approach pairs commentary on these issues with jokes rather than traditional game analysis.
One joke targets the growing trend of video podcasts. An image of ESPN personality Brian Windhorst appears on screen as Griffin tells the camera, “Can I just say something? Not all podcasts have to be video.” The joke pokes fun at sports media and the steady stream of online commentary.
Blake Griffin’s company Mortal Media produces The Stepback with former NFL player Ryan Kalil, in partnership with Amazon’s Wondery. This series premieres on October 20, 2026, with new episodes arriving every Tuesday on YouTube and Prime Video. Its release schedule coincides with the start of the new NBA season, giving sports fans a weekly dose of Griffin’s comedy and commentary.
