Zinedine Zidane hails ‘exceptional’ Michael Olise

France head coach Zinedine Zidane has described Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise as “exceptional” after his team’s 4-1 win over Belgium on Monday. Les Bleus came from behind to score four late goals and take all three points against the Red Devils, with Olise scoring twice and providing an assist.

France have scored seven goals in Zidane’s first four games in charge, with Olise directly involved in six of them through four goals and two assists. When asked whether the Bayern winger is the best player in the world, Zidane responded with a smile: “I have nothing to say. What he’s doing is just exceptional.”

Against Belgium, Olise started on the bench before being introduced for Ousmane Dembélé after an hour. The Bayern winger then led France’s comeback, setting up Rayan Cherki before scoring twice himself in the closing stages.

In the previous meeting with the same opposition, Olise also came off the bench to score a spectacular winner, prompting an iconic celebration from Zidane on the touchline.

Olise is among the contenders for this year’s Ballon d’Or following his impressive performances for both club and country last season. He has also made the list of award favourites from Bayern legend Thomas Müller.
