Anya Taylor-Joy’s Vintage Pierre Cardin Gown at the LACMA Gala Is Pure Fashion Fantasy

Anya Taylor-Joy attended the 2026 LACMA Art+Film Gala on Saturday evening, where artist Vija Celmins and filmmaker Denis Villeneuve were honoured.

As we all know, Anya is back working with Law Roach, just in time for the Dune: Part Three press tour.

I don’t know what initially prompted Anya to explore a different styling direction after parting ways with Law, but seeing her in this extraordinary vintage Pierre Cardin Spring 1997 Haute Couture bridal creation makes me wonder why they ever stopped working together in the first place. If this is a preview of what their renewed partnership has in store, we could be about to witness some of the best red carpet moments of her career. In fact, this might already be one of them.

The cape reminds me of a sea anemone, with its extraordinary layers of translucent organza curling around her body. It’s the kind of piece you want to see in motion, because you can only imagine how beautifully those ruffles would ripple as she walks.

What makes this even more remarkable is the gown’s history. It was exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum in 2019 as part of Pierre Cardin: Future Fashion. I’m not sure where Law sourced this particular ensemble, but he’s once again managed to bring museum-worthy couture onto the red carpet. At this point, are we even surprised?

Anya completed the look with a Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany & Co. Stars and Moons necklace, crafted in platinum with more than 129 carats of diamonds, alongside diamond earrings totalling over three carats and a platinum ring featuring a diamond of more than nine carats. With a gown this extraordinary, the jewellery needed to be equally special, and I love that the necklace holds its own against those oversized ruffles.

One thing I’ve said repeatedly about Anya is that she knows how to sell a fashion fantasy. She never simply puts on a beautiful dress and calls it a day. There’s always a character, a story or a world she’s inviting us into, and this appearance is a perfect example.

It’s also why her reunion with Law makes so much sense. They’re two fashion storytellers who clearly share an appetite for extraordinary clothes, and when they’re working together, the results are hard to beat.
