Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 5: Fortune and Cursed Sprites explained

As Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 5 rolls on, there are still new mechanics being added to give you an edge in matches, and one of the most interesting things this season is the variation on Sprites. There is a standard set of Sprites available in Fortnite Treasure Hunters, but as of the November 8 update, all of them now have two variants: Fortune and Cursed.

We’ll explain what each of these means so you know what to look out for when you next drop into a match.

Cursed Sprites sound like something negative, and while they do have negative effects, they do have a strong upside too.

A Cursed Sprite will make rare Sprites more likely to appear when you do anything that would summon a Sprite, like opening a Sprite chest. However, the exchange for this power is that touching water damages you. So if you’re more focused on completing your Sprite collection than winning matches, then picking up a Cursed Sprite is the right move, but maybe not if you’re looking for the best edge.

All Cursed Sprites also have the power of their regular variants.

Fortune Sprites are much nicer than their Cursed variants, though they only appear commonly during events like the recent Treasure Hours in Fortnite. Their effect is straightforward: they let you see nearby chests through walls.

This is useful in every match, as getting more loot is always a good thing, but it will also be a huge boon if you’re still on the hunt for the extremely rare Pirate Shop Token, which will unlock items for free.

Like the Cursed Sprites, all Fortune Sprites also have the power of their regular variants.
