Apple is now allowing App Store developers to send retention messages to subscribers who cancel an in-app subscription. These messages can also include special discounts to prevent subscribers from churning.
If configured, these new retention messages can display images, text, and special offers. Apple’s Retention Messaging API also lets developers pick up which message to show each subscriber based on their subscription details.
“When a subscriber initiates a cancellation, a retention message can highlight key features, announce upcoming content, or present a promotional offer to encourage them to stay. You can create up to 10 retention messages per app and apply each message to one or more subscriptions,” Apple explained in an App Store Connect support page.
These new retention messages aren’t the only App Store update Apple announced this week. The company will also soon implement new age-rating content descriptors in App Store Connect, and apps that include dating and relationships, including a “virtual companion that engages a user in sexual or romantic content,” will receive a minimum age rating of 18+.
