It appears Donald Trump Jr. is buddying up to Vice President JD Vance.

Following the Republican Party’s major loss in the midterm elections, President Donald Trump‘s son, 48, responded to the vice president’s lengthy X post blaming the war with Iran for how things played out at the polls.

While some interpreted the 42-year-old’s post as the VP creating some distance between himself and the president, Don Jr. responded by writing on X, “Every word of this is 💯💯💯.”

According to a Thursday, November 5, report in journalist Rob Shuter‘s Naughty But Nice Substack, Don Jr.’s response may have been a strategic move.

Vance’s post signaled that he is looking ahead to 2028 and the next presidential election.

“JD Vance is the future [Don Jr.] wants to be standing next to,” a Republican insider told Shuter. “This is about positioning himself for what comes next.”

If Vance were to become the Republican nominee, he would need a running mate, and “Don wants to be on that ticket,” the insider claimed.

“He isn’t just agreeing with JD; he’s making sure Vance sees him as an ally,” the insider added. “He’s distancing himself from his father without giving up the political value of the Trump name.”

As Globe previously reported, many have interpreted Vance’s post as him creating distance between himself and the president (though the VP didn’t make any direct statements that imply he and the Apprentice alum, 80, are at odds).

Still, Shuter’s insider said, “Junior knows the political winds are changing. His father is becoming a liability.”

Vance shared a video of the president reacting to his lengthy X post when being asked about it by reporters.

“I know how he feels about it,” the former reality show host said. “I think it was fine. I thought it was good.”
