President Trump says GOP stronghold would remain if his name were on ballot

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – President Donald Trump, in a post made on Truth Social Tuesday night, claimed that Republicans would have easily held their congressional majorities if his name had been on the ballot, as early midterm returns showed key races slipping away from the GOP.

🔴 Live Updates: Votes in more than half of Tennessee’s counties have been counted in most 2026 midterm races

The comments came as several of Trump’s hand-picked candidates faltered in critical battleground races across the country.

In South Carolina, Democrat Annie Andrews scored a major upset over Trump-backed Republican Darline Graham, flipping a Senate seat Democrats had not held in more than two decades. Democrats also flipped a Senate seat in North Carolina and defeated key House Republicans in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Live election results continue to be updated throughout the night on WSMV4 as ballots are counted nationwide.
