(NewsNation) — It would be an understatement to say GLP-1s have been a popular drug of choice for Hollywood stars who want to lose or manage their weight.

While a few celebrities, such as Oprah Winfrey, Rosie O’Donnell and Charles Barkley have praised the “miracle drug,” for changing their lives, others have shared the downsides of Ozempic, Mounjaro and more.

A few have refused to participate in the GLP-1 craze.

Singer Jelly Roll, who’s documented his weight loss, said he’s never used Ozempic because he’s afraid of the possible side effects.

“We’re not against Ozempic or any of that stuff. Every doctor I’ve talked to is for it. They said it helps. I just was afraid of it,” Jelly Roll said on his soon-to-be ex-wife’s Bunnie Xo’s “Dumb Blonde” podcast in 2024.

“As a singer, few things scare me more than acid reflux,” he said of the potential side effect.

The “Hands Up” singer added, “I just could not afford any acid reflux. So I want to be very clear that I’ve done it naturally, but it wasn’t out of stubbornness or trying to prove a point. If it helps you, go get it. But for me, I was just petrified of the side effects of it.”

Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet seemed shocked that so many actresses are using the weight-loss drugs, finding it “devastating” and “frightening” how a person’s self-esteem is tied to their appearance.

“Some are making choices to be themselves; others do everything they can to not be themselves,” she told U.K.’s Sunday Times in December 2005.

“And do they know what they are putting in [their bodies]? The disregard for one’s health is terrifying. It bothers me now more than ever. It is f—— chaos out there,” the “Titanic” actress added.

Julia Fox

Julia Fox called out those who have accused her of taking semaglutides.

In 2023, she told Entertainment Tonight, “All these people are coming for me saying that I take the weight-loss things … people are saying that I’m taking Ozempic. I’m not, and I never have. I would never do that. There are diabetics that need it.”

Former Los Angeles mayoral candidate and reality TV “villain” Spencer Pratt gave a more descriptive reason why he won’t take Ozempic.

“I’m not trying to get Ozempic face. I’m not trying to be on Page Six coming out of a place, getting papped and looking all Skeletor [and] spooky,” he said on Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea podcast.

Chef Nigella Lawson told The New York Times in 2024 that her love for food is the reason she hasn’t taken a GLP-1 drug.

“I read something once where someone said, ‘I was on Ozempic and it was the first time I didn’t think about food all the time,’ and I thought, I can’t imagine anything worse than that. I take great pleasure in thinking about food all of the time,” she said.
