There’s nothing quite as timeless as a polka dot. But this year, we’ve seen the stalwart motif reimagined plenty of times in the form of colour. Since the high street caught wind of the colour coalition trend, we’ve seen the dotty print in plenty of combinations. From brown and blue to pink and burgundy, and most recently blue and, well, blue, we’ve seen a range of styles that have sold out at record speed.
But after bold colour blocking, some of our favourite high street fashion retailers have decided to pair things back. The proof? Marks & Spencer, whose newest polka dot piece has shown that sometimes even quieter colour coalitions deserve a spot (ahem!) in your wardrobe.
As part of the new-in collection, M&S’s polka dot blouse has all the key components of a great going-out top. Starting off strong, its satin material instantly elevates even the most basic of blouses. Add the chic polka dot print and you’ve got a top that screams luxe, without the especially hefty price tag.
But there’s more to this blouse than meets the eye. The prime example? The concealed shoulder pads, which add a Savile Row, high end touch to an otherwise typical blouse. They also add more shape for a polished and considered finish that’s usually missing from other staples on the market. To add to the polish, the high neck ties at the back for a chic, fashion forward touch, too.
When it comes to styling the blouse, keep it pared back with other basic pieces to really make it shine. Think washed indigo jeans (choose a flared silhouette to pay homage to the blouse’s subtle ’70s charm) or grey or black trousers for a flattering outfit formula that won’t clash and will look great.
Of course, you can also wear as intended: this blouse comes as part of a co ord, and you can shop the matching polka dot trousers below for a chic yet seriously comfortable look.
