Lee Kang-in (25, Atletico Madrid) has risen to the top of the overall ratings for players in Spain’s professional football league, La Liga. He surpassed world-class stars such as Lamine Yamal (FC Barcelona) and Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid).
On the 31st (Korean time), Lee Kang-in secured first place with a score of 90.2 in the overall player ratings for the 2026-2027 Spanish La Liga, released by sports statistics specialist media outlet Gradient Sports. Lee Kang-in is the only player to receive a rating in the 90s.
The outlet stated, “Lee Kang-in ranked in the top five across all categories, including shooting under pressure, ball retention against tackles, passing, and ball control,” adding, “This ranking is not a subjective selection but a data result analyzing the performance level of every individual play involving the player.”
According to the data, Lee Kang-in ranked first among all La Liga players in pass evaluation, second in ball retention against opponent tackles, and third in ball control. He placed fourth in shooting under pressure and ninth in shooting ability. Based on these evaluations, Lee Kang-in’s overall rating reached 90.2 points.
Lee Kang-in’s rise to first place was significant as he surpassed all other world-class players. Following Lee Kang-in, Pedri (Barcelona, 89.8 points) and Lamine Yamal (88.1 points) took second and third places, respectively, followed by Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid, 87.9 points) and Rodri (Barcelona, 87.6 points). Additionally, Mbappe (Real Madrid, 85.2 points) placed tenth.
Of the top 10 players, a total of eight were from Real Madrid (5 players) and Barcelona (3 players), with only Lee Kang-in and seventh-place Mikel Oyarzabal (Real Sociedad, 85.6 points) not belonging to Real Madrid or Barcelona. Among them, Lee Kang-in stood at the very top of the ranking as the sole player to receive a rating in the 90s.
The outlet explained that its proprietary overall ratings are based on data evaluating over 1,500 individual plays per match and 25 evaluation criteria. It analyzes plays by subdividing them into moments when the ball is possessed and not possessed, going beyond offensive points such as goals and assists, and calculates scores by applying position-specific weights.
This season, Lee Kang-in has appeared in 10 La Liga matches, recording 2 goals and 1 assist, and also played in 2 UEFA Champions League (UCL) matches. Lee Kang-in will challenge for his third goal of the season in the away match against Levante in Round 11 of the La Liga, to be held at Estadio Ciudad de Valencia in Valencia, Spain, at 10 p.m. on the 31st.
