Kojima Productions just gave Death Stranding fans a major surprise: a full anime series is coming to Disney+ in 2027. The studio dropped the first teaser for Death Stranding Isolations during its 10th anniversary event in Tokyo, and it promises a completely original story.

Death Stranding Isolations gets trailer and release window

Kojima Productions announced Death Stranding Isolations at its BEYOND THE STRAND: The Odyssey of Creation and Endeavor event. The animated series will stream exclusively on Disney+ or other Disney Services in 2027. Fans can watch the teaser now.

Death Stranding Isolations breaks away from the games entirely. It follows a young man and woman on their own adventure, with an original cast of characters rather than Sam Porter Bridges and his allies. The teaser centers on a blonde girl roused from sleep by dreams of tar consuming her.

The synopsis sets the story in North America right after Sam reconnects the continent through the Chiral Network. As America rebuilds, those new connections spark unforeseen consequences. A wise old man, a female soldier trapped in cycles of war, and a rage-filled boy all walk paths unlike Sam’s. So does the girl who cut herself off from the world, until chance encounters throw her into a life she doesn’t recognize.

E&H Production brings the series to life in traditional hand-drawn 2D animation. Takayuki Sano directs, Tow Ubukata writes the series composition and screenplay, and Ilya Kuvshinov designs the original characters. Hideo Kojima executive produces, and Kojima Productions produces.

Sano framed the project as a serious responsibility: “One of the unique abilities of entertainment is its power to enhance the spirituality of those who consume it, and I think this is something that Mr. Kojima’s works have always achieved. As a result, I approached this production with an exceptionally strong sense of duty and responsibility. I knew that no matter what, I needed to accomplish the same thing.”

The Death Stranding series passed 27 million players worldwide as of June 2026. Death Stranding Director’s Cut and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach both remain available on PlayStation 5 and PC. With Death Stranding Isolations, the franchise now reaches animation audiences through Disney+, and the 2027 premiere gives newcomers and longtime fans alike a new entry point.
