Kevin Feige shared a touching tribute to Patrick Stewart, who passed away on October 28, 2026, aged 86. The actor gave an unparalleled performance as Professor X since 2000’s X-Men movie, and now the President of Marvel Studios is remembering the late actor for his warmth, generosity, and lasting legacy.

In his emotional tribute, shared via Variety, Feige said, “I’ll never forget the first time I saw Sir Patrick Stewart on the set of the first X-Men. After years of knowing him as the inimitable Captain Picard, I was in awe — and he turned out to be everything I had seen on screen and more: brilliant, charming, warm, generous, with a quiet strength and gravitas.”

“Away from the cameras, he was even more remarkable, with a wonderfully sharp sense of humor,” Feige continued. “It was a true privilege to know him and to work with him. His legacy lives on not only in decades of extraordinary work, but in the many, many people he mentored. He will be deeply missed.”

Patrick Stewart’s legacy as Professor X will live on in Marvel’s X-Men

Among the most iconic roles he bagged throughout his lifetime, that of Professor Charles Xavier (aka Professor X) continues to carry on Stewart’s legacy. After all, the actor played the character over the course of 26 years.

Over the years, the actor embodied the character in eight movies so far. He debuted as Professor X in Fox’s original X-Men film in 2000, defining the telepathic leader’s calm wisdom and moral authority. Continuing, Stewart played the character across multiple eras, including the original Fox trilogy (X-Men, X2: X-Men United, and X-Men: The Last Stand), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), and the acclaimed Logan (2017). He returned to the role once again in 2022, in Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Stewart is set to reprise his fan-favorite role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday as well, which is scheduled to hit theaters later this year, on December 18. This will notably mark his ninth and final time returning to the role.

Although Patrick Stewart has passed away, his iconic portrayal of Professor Charles Xavier will endure as a cornerstone of Marvel’s X-Men legacy.
