Mark Zuckerberg has made one of Miami’s most expensive real estate purchases, snapping up a $170 million mansion on an island packed with billionaires and it looks like he wants to become Jeff Bezos’ neighbor.

The Meta CEO and his wife, Priscilla Chan, bought the waterfront property on Indian Creek Island, where Amazon founder Jeff Bezos also has a home.

The sprawling estate boasts luxury features that make it feel more like a private resort than a regular family home.

But despite the eye-watering price tag, Zuckerberg will have to hold off making Florida his primary residence.

The $170 million Miami mansion is fit for Mark Zuckerberg

Zuckerberg purchased the mansion in March 2026, setting a record for the most expensive residential sale in Miami-Dade County.

The mansion was originally listed for $200 million in November 2025, before the deal closed for $170 million.

Located on exclusive Indian Creek Island, the estate is expected to measure around 28,000 square feet and feature nine bedrooms.

There’s also plenty to keep its future residents entertained, with plans for a swimming pool, private dock, gym, hair salon, and massage room.

One particularly eye-catching feature is a 1,500-gallon aquarium, while the property is also expected to include a library with a concealed passageway.

The estate sits on roughly two acres of waterfront land, offering Zuckerberg and Chan a seriously luxurious base in South Florida.

However, the couple’s plans for their new property have become more complicated than simply unpacking their bags and enjoying the sunshine.

Mark Zuckerberg is meant to be Jeff Bezos’ neighbor – but there’s a catch

Indian Creek Island has earned the nickname ‘Billionaire Bunker’ thanks to its exclusive residents, lavish waterfront properties and tightly controlled access.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is among the island’s most famous residents, having acquired three properties there for a reported $234 million combined.

Other well-known names associated with the area include Tom Brady, Carl Icahn, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner.

With his new mansion, Zuckerberg appeared to be joining the same ultra-wealthy neighborhood.

But according to a report from The Wall Street Journal, the Meta boss has agreed to remain a California resident for the next eight years under an arrangement with the company’s board.

The agreement is conditional on him continuing to lead Meta as its full-time CEO or executive chair, with an exception for material unforeseen circumstances.

That doesn’t mean Mark Zuckerberg is banned from visiting his Miami mansion, but instead, the deal means he cannot simply switch his primary residence to Florida.

California’s proposed billionaire tax

Zuckerberg’s potential move to Florida comes amid concerns over a proposed California wealth tax.

The proposed measure, known as Proposition 40, would introduce a one-time five percent tax on the net worth of qualifying billionaires who lived in California on January 1, 2026, if voters approve it.

Zuckerberg reportedly considered leaving his California residence, which he spent a lot of money renovating.

However, Meta also has a strong interest in keeping its leader close to its Menlo Park headquarters and its growing artificial intelligence operations.

As part of the agreement, Meta plans to create a new class of nonvoting shares that Zuckerberg can sell to raise cash while preserving his voting control of the company.

The arrangement gives him a way to access funds without immediately sacrificing his influence over Meta, while the company gets a commitment to keep him in California for the foreseeable future.

For now, the $170 million Miami mansion remains a spectacular addition to Zuckerberg’s property portfolio.

But while Bezos and other billionaires can enjoy life on Indian Creek Island, Zuckerberg’s plans for a permanent move south will have to wait.
