You Can See Everything has emerged as one of the most compelling documentaries in recent years. Beyond its subject matter and cinematography, the film’s presentation, which includes reenactments, has captured the attention of fans and critics alike while making waves on the awards circuit.
The documentary also features an NSFW scene involving Billy Evans, the partner of Elizabeth Holmes, who is the film’s central subject. In the scene, Evans is shown showering. Co-director Lance Oppenheim has now revealed that the idea for the scene came from Evans himself.
In an interview with GQ, Oppenheim revealed that Billy himself offered to let the crew film him showering. The director also shared his thoughts on what might have prompted Billy to make the unusual suggestion.
Recalling the conversation, Oppenheim stated, “We were in the car ride on the way back from the gym, and I said to Billy, ‘We will give you some time to shower.’ And Billy responded, ‘Want to film me showering?’ I offered to film him in a way that could avoid seeing his genitals, but Billy said he didn’t care about being seen naked.”
Speculating as to why Billy Evans was fine with the idea, Oppenheim said, “So I don’t know what that means, but I feel like there’s enough stuff in there that gives me the impression that maybe he was excited that people could see everything and that there was full access, I guess. But it really beats me, honestly.”
You Can See Everything is expanding to more movie theaters this weekend
A24 has announced that You Can See Everything will expand to an additional 2,500 theaters this coming weekend, marking its second weekend in theaters.
A24 announced the expansion with a subtle reference to the documentary. While the yellow bowl and hand might seem like an unusual image choice to those unfamiliar with the film, they allude to one of its most widely discussed scenes.
The scene shows Evans taking over the task of mixing eggs from Holmes, an act that might not have seemed significant in another context. However, the documentary’s portrayal of the moment has led some fans to interpret it as a sign that Holmes may be being manipulated.
You Can See Everything is now playing in theaters.
