New mom-and-pop coffee shops are popping up in Clovis — but they’re not on busy high-profile corners you pass on your way home.
They’re tucked away inside a restaurant, a bar, a market and in the back of a shopping center. You need to know where to look.
Most are in Old Town Clovis or not far from it.
Of course, Old Town already has thriving local coffee shops, including Two Cities Coffee Roasters, On The Edge, and Kuppa Joy.
But if you’re looking to check out the newbies doing something different in town — including an adults only coffee shop — take a look at these places and their drink menus.
New or coming soon coffee shops in Clovis
The Cafe at Dosan
About a month ago, Dosan A Social Eatery at 80 W. Shaw Ave. added a coffee shop inside its restaurant. The building (once home to a Straw Hat Pizza) has a coffee shop that’s open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekends.
It’s got espresso-based drinks, matcha, cold brew, tea and its signature lattes in flavors such as crème brûlée, banana, and salted brown sugar. The cafe also serves bagels and croissants.
Dosan recently tried out a buffet concept, combining hofbrau-style meat-carving stations with a Sweet Tomatoes-style salad bar. It didn’t work out, and the restaurant switched to an upscale restaurant serving lunch and dinner.
The counter where its meat stations were has been converted into the coffee counter where the drinks are made. Customers can enjoy their coffee in the casual cafe area at the front with meals served in the quieter dining areas.
Hapa California Coffee inside Nourish
Hapa California Coffee is a Filipina-owed coffee counter inside Nourish on Pollasky Avenue in Clovis. That’s the spot with the big shady patio in Old Town that has a market, bakery and mindful movement classes under one roof.
In addition to the standard coffee drinks and seasonal pumpkin flavored beverages, Hapa has more ube and matcha than you’ll find on most menus in town.
There’s a popular ube leche flan latte made with the flavors of the purple yam. And there’s a turon cold brew, described as Filipino cold brew coffee with salted caramel and banana flavors, oatmilk and vanilla cold foam. Turon is a rolled-up banana sweet treat from the Phillippines.
The name “Hapa,” according to the coffee shop’s website, comes from the Pacific Islander slang term for mixed-race people — as in, “Half Asian, Part American.”
Along with a drink at Hapa, customers at Nourish can also grab a baked good, such as a sky-high piece of soft focaccia topped with tomatoes. They can also browse the shelves for local foods or linger at the tables.
Hapa is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays through Wednesdays, and from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays.
Monstera Coffee Studio
Monstera Coffee Studio on Pollasky is an adults-only, 21+ coffee shop because it’s inside a bar. It’s in the front of The Backyard Social Club, the bar and eatery with the giant backyard.
You can access it from the front or from the parking lot in the back. It’s open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. (The bar and kitchen start serving at 11 a.m., so sometimes people come for coffee and stay for a beer and a snack.)
You’ll find the traditional coffee drinks — yes, there’s drip coffee — but also some pretty creative options.
One of the most popular sellers is the banana bread latte.
Teas are popular too, especially the berry basil and the cherry bomb, made with elderberry and hibiscus flavors. You can get matcha here too.
Bagels and other baked goods are available.
Like the bar customers, coffee drinkers have the run of the place and can lounge in the big backyard or indoors.
Noc Box Coffee Studio

Noc Box Coffee Studio is planning to open in the Barnyard Shopping Center on Clovis Avenue, north of Shaw Avenue. It will be in the back of the center on the left.
It’s not open yet, but the coffee shop is deep in renovations.
You can follow its progress on its Instagram account, where owner Chase Benedetti is sharing efforts to transform the space and create a patio on the western end of the building.
Noc Box started about three years ago as a pop-up, selling at Enzo’s Table, private events and at Springly, a Vietnamese cafe on North Blackstone Avenue. It sells espresso drinks, including a honey-amaretto latte and a rosemary-vanilla latte.
The name is a twist on knock box, the container a barista knocks spent grounds into after brewing.
